CASA CLAUDIA is a Brazilian monthly house decor magazine, published by Editora Abril. In 2003, the art director Rosana Grimaldi commissioned me to create a set of dingbats for a serie of especial editions. Rosana already had an idea about how the dingbats should look like. Based on that designs, I felt that I needed assistance of a designer with a sharp eye for illustration, so I asked the designer Beto Shibata to collaborate on this project. Beto had previous experience on designing both icons and typefaces, and did a great job translating the references into dingbats. Some of the references were closer to illustrations than pictograms, thus the main challenge was to make them work at small sizes. The dingbats were provided in a font file, making it easier to apply them on layouts.
