Catalogue to showcase a creative exploration that unfolded at DiTA DRAWING IN THE ACADEMY, a symposium hosted by the School of Creative Industries at The University of Newcastle Australia. The event offered a space for critical discussion around the role of drawing within Design Education and Visual Communication Design. As part of the event activities, each attendees was required to submit a short 1200-1500 word essay accompanied by a drawing to reflect on the role of drawing into the future. The resulting papers and drawings were featured in a low-print run catalogue.

Low-print run publications are usually a challenge, as its not cost-effective to print in offset. That technical limitation was overcame via a daring choice—use fluorescent coloured paper, printed in black A3 laser printers. At every 8 pages, the paper would change colour, from magenta to yellow to green. The drawings had a huge variety in dimensions, so they were featured in a white uncoated thick paper, printed in black colour on Risograph printing. On the back side of the drawing, an explanation of the artwork was also printed in Risograph, but now in magenta + cyan. This deliberate choice of bringing a stark contrast accentuates the tactile nature of hand drawings, offering a sensory experience that encapsulates the spirit of this symposium, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.
